Famous sites of Provence in one day
Pont du Gard -
Full day tour -
During the tour, stop at the Antiques of Saint Rémy de Provence
We’ll begin this day by visiting the Pont du Gard. The famous aqueduct, a UNESCO world heritage site, remains one of the wonders of Roman Antiquity. It is more than 2,000 years old and is located in a unique natural setting.
We’ll continue our private tour in Provence with the discovery of one “of the most beautiful villages in France”, Les Baux de Provence. This unique village, in the heart of the Regional Natural Reserve of the Alpilles, is perched on a rocky outcrop, 247 m high. Its paved streets, its renaissance houses will amaze you… The Baux Castle, located on the highest point of the plateau, blends in with the rock. It offers spectacular views of the vines, the olive groves, the Camargue… as far as the sea. During your visit to this “eagle’s nest”, you’ll see reconstructed artillery based on 13th century drawings (catapults, battering rams…). Visit the Sarragan Wine Cellars, a unique site, dug into the rock. You’ll have the opportunity to taste the local A.O.C des Coteaux d’Aix wines in a renowned underground wine cellar, the only one of its kind in the world.
Then, towards the village of Gordes, classified as one of “the most beautiful villages in France”, where you’ll love its unique geographical location. 400m up on the hillside, Gordes overlooks the Calavon valley, with its church and its Renaissance castle at the top, facing the surrounding hills. You can stroll along the paved streets where the slope has been transformed into steps, and you’ll discover its tall houses built straight into the rock, its archeological remains and its wonderful views.
You’ll see the Notre Dame de Sénanque Abbey, a wonderful example of 12th century Cistercian art. Surrounded by lavender fields, it is still used as a monastery.
We’ll finish this private day tour at Roussillon which is a little village perched on an ochre cliff (clay earth pigment), surrounded by spectacular scenery. It is located in the heart of the biggest ochre deposit in the world. You’ll love its picturesque streets and little village squares, with its houses in different shades of the rich palette of yellow and red ochres.
